Spiritual Warfare Through Prayer

Paul said in 2 Cor. 10 that our weapons are not fleshly. We are not fighting against flesh and blood. We must pray in such a way that we can move mountains and thereby stop and ultimately destroy Satan, who is the very source behind all the trouble. We are fighting a battle; we are soldiers. We are not just preaching the gospel – though that is a very positive work through which we must exercise to put on the authority of Christ. That is why the Lord told the apostles to wait in Jerusalem until they were clothed with power from on high, just like a policeman with his uniform (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4,8).

Satan, the Source of All Destruction

We are fighting an enemy who is invisible like the coronavirus. But our invisible enemy is being disseminated by the visible enemy. Who is behind all the misery in this world? Satan is the author of confusion. He is the adversary, the deceiver – causing chaos, problems, and fighting. He is the real source. If we do not deal with the source and fight against him in prayer, then the problems will never be solved. Let the politicians fight against flesh and blood; that is their job. But our job is to fight against the invisible enemies! Day by day, we are experiencing these perilous times in 2 Tim. 3:1-4: “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.” There are many vipers in politics – an entire generation of vipers! Let the people in high positions fight the outward battle, and we will fight the spiritual warfare. The invisible enemy is the real enemy. Once he is destroyed, everything will collapse. We must learn to be conscious of this. Often, we are still very focused on outward circumstances. Of course, we must be at least somewhat aware of them. But in waging a strategic warfare, we must pray specifically in order to end the battle and to win it.

May the Lord lead us daily in triumph in Christ Jesus against all the enemies, and through us diffuse the fragrance of His knowledge in every place (2 Cor. 2:14). Song 298S says, “We are the army of Christ our King…Foll’wing the Lamb where’er He may go.” This song is truly current. Let us keep updating our songs!

We are looking up to the One sitting on the throne. He is the Beginning and also the End. Today, the end is very near. He is the author and the finisher, the Alpha and the Omega. Let us continue to look to Him who sits on the throne and thereby also make it to the throne with Him. The example of Noah’s ark is ver appropriate: It is good if we close all windows except one. Noah’s ark had only one window, and it looked straight up. Let us look up – to our glorious head, Jesus Christ, on the throne. He is the author and the finisher of our faith.

Christ on the Throne is Above All

There is progressive revelation from the gospels all the way to the book of Revelation. The gospels show that God became flesh in Jesus Christ and was crucified for our sins. But in the book of Revelation, there is a very clear reason why He ascended to the throne: namely, to receive the scroll from the Father’s right hand. The Father had been waiting for centuries, even millennia, for a Man who is worthy to receive this scroll and to rule over this world. Since the day of His ascension, the Son of Man appeared according to the vision in Daniel 7, and in the book of Revelation, He took the scroll and started to open the seven seals. When the Lord ascended to the throne, the seven seals began, and they continue to this day. The sixth and seventh seal have yet to be opened, along with the seven trumpets and seven bowls. This will happen in the final 3.5 years. So today, we must look up to the Lord, who went to the cross, rose from the dead, and ascended to the throne to have dominion over all the kings of the earth and over every situation.

It is good not to ask too many questions nor to be too curious. Instead of asking “Why, why, why?”, we must “trust, trust, trust” the One sitting on the throne! Then the Lord will give us understanding in all things. Otherwise, we will be frustrated and angry and ask Him, “Why are You letting evil people do all these terrible things?” Ultimately, all we will get are headaches and heartaches. But if we see that Christ is in control of everything, then we will realize there must be a reason why He is allowing all these calamities to happen today. If these things were not happening, we would never believe that we are living at the end of the age and that democracy is coming to an end! If everything were so smooth and lawful in America and there were no problems at all, then you would laugh at me if I were to tell you that democracy is ending. But when we see the lawlessness increasing and so many evil things happening on this earth, we will realize that nothing can be saved. The only solution is the return of the Lord Jesus. We can no longer change the situation, nor turn back the clock. But we must see what the Lord is doing today and why He lets things happen the way they do. He is exposing everything!

Since we see that He is in control of everything, let us wake up and see the seriousness of the situation: “Lord, I want to be ready.” Have you ever had such a desire in your heart to say, “Lord, I have to make it, I need to change and be sanctified. I want to become a firstfruit, to be saved to the uttermost and to be trained for the priesthood”? But if everything around us is fine and ordinary, you will not feel this inner pressure. That is why the Lord in His wisdom lets everything happen. Even this coronavirus lockdown is good and wonderful. Of course, many people are depressed because of the quarantine. I hope that we are not! We are enjoying His wonderful peace and joy; we can praise God because He is accomplishing many things that could not have happened under other circumstances. How else is this world going to wake up? This is the wisdom and sovereignty of God. In everything give thanks to Him! Do not worry but trust in the Lord, who knows how to preserve His people.
